Jenn has been a teacher and
artist for over thirty years and was until recently Chairman
of The Batik Guild, a post she held
for nearly ten years. She was joint Curator of The Batik Guild's
very successful touring exhibition Batik Transitions - From Classic to Contemporary which
ran from September 2006 to August 2007. She also helped to edit
the Batik Guild publication
The Art of Batik.
During all this time, Jenn has combined her observational
skills as a former geography teacher with her love of colour,
particularly
when in the garden or out in the landscapes and seascapes of
Sussex and France.
She works on a variety of media, cotton lawn, silk, linen, paper
and most recently on wooden forms turned by her husband Stephen.
Many of her designs have been turned into cards.
She has taught batik in schools and residential colleges for
many years, and at her studio workshop Batik in Brighton.
Her work has been shown in joint exhibitions all over England,
Scotland and Wales and she has opened her house and studio in
The Brighton Festival several times.
Jenn hopes to have her first one person exhibition soon in Brighton.
She has spoken about batik to teachers and textile artists in
Britain and most recently in Poland. |
