
Jenn has been a teacher and artist for over forty years and was a previous Chair of The Batik Guild, a post she held for nearly ten years. She was joint Curator of The Batik Guild's very successful touring exhibition Batik Transitions - From Classic to Contemporary which ran from September 2006 to August 2007. She also helped to edit the Batik Guild publication The Art of Batik. She has worked with Rosi Robinson and Carol Dillingham to produce batik calendars in the last four years. During all this time, Jenn has combined her observational skills as a former geography teacher with her love of colour, particularly when in the garden or out in the landscapes and seascapes of Sussex and France.
She works on a variety of media, cotton lawn, silk, linen, paper and on wooden forms turned by her husband Stephen. Many of her designs have been turned into cards.
She has taught batik in schools and residential colleges for many years and at her studio workshop Batik in Hove.
Her work has been shown in joint exhibitions all over England, Scotland, Wales and France, and she has opened her house and studio in The Brighton Festival several times.She gives demonstrations of Batik at various places during the annual Brighton Festival Open Houses.
Jenn has held two one-person shows in Brighton and a large exhibition of 80 art works in 2023. More than thirty artists and students took part. In June 2026 she will hold anothe exhibition to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of The Batik Guild. Contact her for more details.
Jenn assists with the magazine Noticeboard and is an adviser to the Batik Guild committee helping to promote understanding of batik through education and exhibitions.
She is organising shared workshops for local members of the Batik Guild, which she hopes to expand to any members who contact her.
